The ETH Competence Center "Coping with Crises in Complex Socio-Economic Systems" is part of a large-scale initiative of ETH Zurich in the area of systemic risk and integrated risk management. The interconnected activities involve altogether 19 different institutes and 34 professors in these fields. This amounts to more than 350 researchers engaged in the field of risk. In addition to the departments, the knowhow and activity of these researchers are bundled in several competence centres and clusters:

• LSA Laboratory for Safety Analysis, focussing on risk and vulnerability assessment of technical systems and offering the postgraduate program "Risk and Safety"

• ETH Zürich RiskLab Switzerland, focussing on quantitative methods and tools for risk management and offering the postgraduate program in Finance together with the University of Zurich;

• HazNETH Network for Natural Hazards at ETH Zürich, working in the areas of process-analysis, hazard prediction, hazard and risk assessment, and integrated risk management and offering a postgraduate program "Natural Hazard Engineering and Management" in the near future.

• ZISC Zurich Center for Information Security, addressing fundamental questions in building secure networked information systems and offering a specialization track in information security within the Computer Science Master Program.

• CSS Center for Security Studies, focussing on research in the fields of international and Swiss security policy and participation in a postgraduate program "Security Policy and Crises Management".

The CCSS also interacts with the International Risk Governance Council (irgc), the Competence Center Environment and Sustainability (CCES), the Institute for Environmental Decisions (IED), the Future Cities Programm in the Singapore ETH Center (SEC), the Competence Center for Digital Design and Modeling (DDM), and the North-South Center. It has worldwide connections with many other related activities.
